The HOLIDAY SEASON is upon us. And on top of the decorations, shopping and celebrations, it's time to start thinking about the people who care for you and your family throughout the year. A great way to show your appreciation is to give them money or a gift. But deciding who to tip and how much to give can be a daunting task.

As a rule of thumb, focus on the people who work in your home, like a nanny or housekeeper, and those whose services you request regularly, such as a hair stylist or fitness trainer, says Anna Post, etiquette expert with the Burlington, Vermont-based Emily Post Institute. If your budget is tight, consider small gifts like a book or a potted plant. Or, simply give them a card.
