TT Electronics Finds in Taridium ipbx a Dream Solution to PBX Nightmare

PR Newswire
posted: 80 DAYS 6 HOURS AGO

NEW YORK, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- When leading open standards VoIP solutions provider Taridium LLC (http://www.taridium.com), developers of the Taridium ipbx enterprise solution, received a call from TT Electronics, the British-owned global electronics group's situation was dire: The Toshiba phone system TT Electronics had been using for 11 years was out of space to add new users, support for the PBX had been discontinued, and Toshiba was advising TT Electronics to migrate to a more expensive, updated version of the hardware with no more capacity than its current PBX.

TT Electronics had spent the last six months investigating their options - and in the meantime, out of necessity, the company had started taking phones away from existing users to accommodate new employees. TT Electronics information system manager David Koch and his team determined Nortel, Avaya and Cisco systems were not good fits for the company's needs and began searching for an open-source solution.

They found that fit in Asterisk(R), an open-source PBX and telephony platform that runs on a variety of systems, including Linux. Though the TT Electronics team had some experience with Linux, the team's background in telephony was limited. The company felt Asterisk might be the answer to its problems, but it lacked the time and expertise to implement the communications platform throughout the corporation.

"In order for this to be successful we needed to find an experienced solutions provider to help us transition off of the Toshiba PBX to a modern phone system," Koch explained. A quick Web search led him to Taridium and its graphical management interface, Taridium ipbx.

Immediately, TT Electronics realized Taridium ipbx would allow the company to manage its PBX in-house and hand off daily maintenance tasks to an administrator. Comparison of Taridium ipbx with solutions offered by other open-source VoIP companies, including Fonality, Switchvox, Trixbox and Digium, convinced TT Electronics that Taridium ipbx was the best fit for its needs.

"It was a long process, but we needed to find the right solution and that was Taridium. They offered the best blend of flexibility, price to performance, excellent references, and expertise," Koch stated. "Taridium did a complete evaluation and helped us get our infrastructure in line ... Taridium remotely installed and configured our entire Perry [Ohio] office (initially 150 users) in a matter of days. To say the least, we were surprised at the level of expertise and speed at which our phone system was put into production."

TT Electronics now enjoys an easy-to-use, professionally supported system that allows the company to add phones and users in-house - with no hard limits on the number of users and expandability. Taridium provides remote access and troubleshooting services as needed.

"Compared to the proprietary solutions we looked at, [Taridium's system] was a bargain given the performance we got from Taridium," finished Mark Kray, vice president and general manager of TT Electronics.
