posted: 52 DAYS 21 HOURS AGO

ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Trucking Associations is proud to announce that it is leading the trucking industry in transporting the materials for Team Boston to the "Solar Village" on the National Mall for the 2009 Solar Decathlon.

Through the efforts of ATA members Lester R. Summers, Inc., Con-way Freight and Con-way Truckload, the trucking industry delivered the solar-powered home constructed by Team Boston - a partnership between the Boston Architectural College (BAC) and Tufts University. For more information on Team Boston, click here.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratories (NREL) sponsor this biannual competition in which twenty teams showcase fully operational, energy-efficient, marketable, solar-powered homes to the public on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The 2007 Solar Decathlon Competition brought 250,000 visitors to the 'Solar Village' on the National Mall to view the latest in green design.

Lester R. Summers, Inc. handled the over-sized loads, hauling the three sections of the solar house from Boston to Washington D.C. Con-way Truckload loaded the materials that will make the solar-powered house functional. Con-way Freight delivered the tools that will put the house together. This project serves as a prime example of how all of life's essentials are delivered by truck.

America's Road Team Captain and professional driver for Con-way Freight, Jerry Charron helped make the delivery to the Solar Village for Team Boston. A video of him describing the experience can be seen here.

"Every day our company works to identify and adopt innovative practices and technologies to reduce our carbon footprint and help our customers meet their green goals," said David L. Miller, senior vice president, global policy and economic sustainability, Con-way Inc. "The Solar Decathlon is an event that is well-aligned with our sustainable business practices, and we are delighted to support it."

"We take great pride in exceeding our customer's expectations by handling all aspects of transportation, especially with oversize loads," said John Summers of Lester R. Summers, Inc. "Our goal is to give our customers peace of mind in moving their freight so that they can concentrate on the core aspects of their business. It is exciting to be involved in this project and the efforts of Michele Stadelman and the rest of Team Boston are impressive. I am glad that our team of professional drivers and behind the scenes support staff helped make this a successful event for everyone."
