PacketVideo Launches TwonkyBeam to Set Media Free from the PC
Launching today at www.twonkymedia.com/beam, TwonkyBeam marks a new, powerful and entirely free addition to PacketVideo’s (PV’s) award-winning TwonkyMedia family of media-sharing software products. TwonkyBeam makes web-browsing more fun by allowing the user to beam their media to connected devices throughout the home. Imagine browsing YouTube™ on your laptop and enjoying video on your TV; playing the music you discover on your stereo while continuing to browse; and enjoying your favorite Flickr® albums on your TV or picture frame.
Just Click and Play
TwonkyBeam is an easy to use browser plug-in that works with Internet Explorer®. Users can download and install the software in less than a minute. Once installed, you can beam content to your favorite device by right clicking on the content. TwonkyBeam also provides a slick display panel that expands to show all of the available media on a Web page, enabling users to simply click on the media they’d like to stream, select a media player, and hit play. Within seconds, users can enjoy high-quality audio on their stereo, or view photos or video on their networked TV. TwonkyBeam can even stream high-definition video over the home network.
“With the vast amount of tremendous media content available on the Web today, consumers shouldn’t be limited to viewing video and photos on small computer monitors, or listening to music on lower end computer speakers,” said Rick Schwartz, product manager, PV. “The majority of consumers are making their larger investments in home theater devices such as high definition TVs and networked stereos. TwonkyBeam is opening up a new world of entertainment where Web-based media can come to life outside of the browser, and can be shared and enjoyed seamlessly on the devices it is intended for.”
Plays Well with Others
TwonkyBeam works with a wide range of consumer electronics and software products, including PV’s popular TwonkyMedia manager application. Popular compatible devices include SAMSUNG, Sony® Bravia®, and Loewe HDTVs, as well as networked stereo receivers from Denon and Pioneer®. Consumers can also purchase a low cost digital media adapter from Linksys®, Phillips, Yamaha, or other providers to use with the gear they already have at home.
Media-Savvy Browsing
TwonkyBeam provides a Recommended Sites link to help guide users to fun and interesting sites for music, photos and videos. Users can also add their own favorite sites to the list to customize and personalize their experience.
Beam Me Up Twonky
TwonkyBeam is a patent pending PV technology that is part of the TwonkyMedia family of products that was recognized as an official 2009 CES Innovations honoree. The Innovations Design and Engineering Awards program recognizes the most innovative consumer electronics (CE) products in the industry's hottest product categories.
