ACS and VMware Now Offering "Next Generation" Desktop Virtualization Solutions
DALLAS, TX and PALO ALTO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/09/09 -- Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. (NYSE: ACS) will be providing a more cost-effective way to deliver desktop managed services for its clients through a partnership with VMware (NYSE: VMW).
As part of the agreement, ACS will now standardize the deployment of VMware View(TM), the industry-leading enterprise desktop virtualization solution, at all of its customer datacenters around the world in order to help customers avoid the capital costs, time and IT resources required to build a virtual desktop solution from scratch.
Desktop virtualization is an emerging trend in the IT marketplace and essentially allows you to run several "virtual" computers on a single physical machine, sharing the resources of that single computer across multiple environments.
"VMware View(TM) has helped us improve the efficiency of desktop management so we can deliver a more cost-effective solution for our customers," said Wayne Scalf, vice president of ACS Global IT Service Delivery. "Plus, we will be able to provide an even greater level of service while expanding our reach to address our growing customer base and a diverse set of new requirements."
ACS currently supports hundreds of thousands of desktops for leading global corporations and government organizations worldwide. By utilizing VMware View to simplify and automate its desktop and application management, ACS will be able to significantly reduce desktop total cost of ownership (TCO) for its customers, as well as improve data security, and enhance flexibility and productivity across multiple end-user platforms and devices.
"This partnership with ACS is a significant step in furthering the movement toward adoption of desktops as a managed service," said Jocelyn Goldfein, vice president and general manager, Desktop Business Unit, VMware. "ACS with VMware View is at the forefront in providing end users with the reliability, flexibility and customization required in today's highly competitive business environment through the delivery of desktops as a managed service."
ACS's desktop management service focuses heavily on preventive maintenance to provide workers with fast, reliable and robust desktops. This solution includes leveraging VMware View to help ensure application version control, administer OS patches and updates, and comply with software-licensing agreements.
ACS Global IT Outsourcing Solutions (ITO) enable commercial businesses and government organizations worldwide to focus on their core competencies. ACS ITO solutions include application infrastructure, business applications, technology infrastructure and IT consulting services. ACS is ranked as the Best Performer for Infrastructure Providers by Global Services 100.
