VeriFone, BP, Novavax, Take-Two are big movers

NEW YORK (AP) — The following stocks were among those that moved substantially or traded heavily Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange:

NYSE:

VeriFone Holdings Inc., up $2.85 at $13.98

The company posted a third-quarter profit of $21.9 million, reversing its loss from the year-ago quarter and topping expectations.

MDS Inc., up $1.76 at $7.62

Danaher Corp. said it will pay $1.1 billion, including debt, for MDS's instruments business to add mass spectrometers to its offerings.

DHT Maritime Inc., down $1.08 at $4

The tanker operator<s profit fell more than 51 percent as sales slid, while the company said it would not pay a second-quarter dividend.

BP PLC, up $2.06 at $52.53

BP said it made a "giant" oil discovery in the Gulf of Mexico but had not yet determined the size and commercial potential of the find.

Textron Inc., up $1.89 at $17.39

An analyst upgraded the diversified conglomerate and said each of its businesses are near bottom and will likely start turning up.

NASDAQ:

Amkor Technology Inc., up 63 cents at $6.26

An analyst upgraded the semiconductor packaging company and said higher demand should boost gross margins and drive up its stock price.

Novavax Inc., down 71 cents at $5.94

An analyst downgraded shares of Novavax after the biotechnology company's stock climbed past his $6 price target.

Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., up 79 cents at $10.95

The video game maker showed a smaller-than-expected quarterly loss, while analysts were confident about a new slate of games.
