October Auto Sales: Volkswagen
HERNDON, Va. (AP) — Volkswagen of America Inc. said Tuesday its October U.S. sales rose thanks to strong demand for its fuel-efficient models including its diesel versions.
BY THE NUMBERS: Volkswagen sales rose 7.2 percent to 17,037 vehicles from 15,889 in the same month last year. For the first 10 months of the year, the automaker's U.S. sales fell 7.5 percent to 176,817 units from 191,256.
TOP SELLER: Jetta sales jumped 25 percent to 9,076 units, while diesel versions accounted for 40 percent of total Jetta sedan and SportWagen sales, the company said.
HOT MODELS: Diesel vehicles, which include versions of the company's Touareg and Golf models in addition to the Jetta, accounted for 24 percent of the month's total sales.
