NEW YORK (AP) — The following stocks were among those that moved substantially or traded heavily Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange:

CIT Group Inc., down 11 cents at 96 cents
Billionaire investor Carl Icahn offered to buy certain classes of debt to thwart a restructuring plan by the commercial lender.
Patriot Coal Corp., up $1.59 at $12.78
The St. Louis company said it's the latest U.S. producer to benefit from resurgent demand for metallurgical coal.
WMS Industries Inc., down $4.37 at $43.03
The casino equipment maker's revenue missed analysts' expectations, while it provided a disappointing second-quarter outlook.
Carter's Inc., down $6.78 at $21.66
The children's clothing maker delayed reporting third-quarter results while it reviews its accounting regarding wholesale customers.
United States Steel Corp., down $3.17 at $37.41
U.S. Steel lost money for a third straight quarter as the global economic downturn dragged down demand for the metal.

Lululemon Athletica Inc., up $2.19 at $27.90
The athletic apparel maker raised its third-quarter profit and revenue forecasts, citing stronger than expected sales.
Scientific Games Corp., down $3.85 at $13.85
News of the planned retirement of CEO Joseph Wright came as the gaming equipment supplier also reported a third-quarter profit decline.
PrivateBancorp Inc., down $2.33 at $9.65
The community bank said its loss widened as a result of its deteriorating credit portfolio, especially its commercial real estate.
