The Roles Are Reversed as Children Help Educate Their Parents
About Their Typical Work Day
CHICAGO, May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chicago office of Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide (Ogilvy PR) will be hosting its first annual "Bring Your Parents to Work Day" to educate employees' parents about the public relations (PR) industry and finally answer the question they receive from many family members, "What exactly is PR?"
Following the lead of Ogilvy PR's New York office, which hosted a successful "Bring Your Parents to Work Day" in 2007, the Chicago office will educate parents about the day to day inner workings of a PR agency. Many employees find that their parents are confused about PR and this day serves as a crash course in PR 101.
"This industry has grown tremendously in recent years and we want to spotlight the power of PR in the marketplace and inform parents about the impact of their children's careers," said Marcia Silverman, global chief executive officer, Ogilvy PR. "We are very proud of our employees and the work they do here at Ogilvy PR, and this is just another way to celebrate their accomplishments."
Similar to "Bring Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day," which is held each spring at workplaces across the country, "Bring Your Parents to Work Day" will allow attendees to learn more about the profession as well as the challenges PR professionals experience on a daily basis.
As part of the day's festivities, parents will attend a classroom-style PR 101 lesson, brainstorm their own PR campaigns, receive an overview of the core business practices at Ogilvy PR and learn about the expansive breadth of client work. The day's session will show exactly what PR is and how it touches their lives each an every day. Whether it is through product reviews in a magazine or helping to manage crisis communications for a client, parents will learn how PR differs from other communication channels and get a first-hand account from their children about a day in the life of an Ogilvy PR employee.
"At Ogilvy PR/Chicago, we have a group of motivated and hard-working PR professionals who diligently manage programs for well-known organizations and brands," said Mike Hatcliffe, managing director, Ogilvy PR, Chicago. "Through this event, parents will be able to gain a deeper understanding for our industry so they can better appreciate the successes and accomplishments that their children achieve each day."
