ST. LOUIS, May 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Energizer Holdings, Inc.
(NYSE: ENR), today announced that William P. Stiritz, the Chairman Emeritus of
Energizer's Board of Directors, has elected to retire from service on the
Board, effective as of the beginning of May. Mr. Stiritz served as Chairman of
the Board from the time of the Company's spin-off in 2000 until January, 2007,
and as Chairman Emeritus, and Chairman of the Board's Finance and Oversight
Committee, since that time. Mr. Stiritz indicated he was retiring because of
his desire to scale back his business activities by reducing the number of
boards on which he serves.
"Bill's service to Energizer Holdings, Inc., as well as his leadership of
the Ralston Purina Company, our former parent, have been outstanding and of
great value to our shareholders," indicated Mr. Ward M. Klein, Chief Executive
Officer. "He was a key figure in the early years following our spin-off, he
has been very instrumental in our acquisitions of the Schick and Playtex
businesses, and throughout his years of service he has provided sage advice
and the benefit of his vast business experience to management and the rest of
the Board. The Board and I understand his desire to step back at this point in
his life from the demands of Board and committee meetings, but we hope to
continue to benefit from his insights and perspective, and willingness to
advise as he continues on as a major shareholder of the company."
Mr. Stiritz stated: "I have greatly enjoyed my time on the Energizer
Board, and my part in building Energizer into the great company that it is
today, but I know that Pat Mulcahy, the Chairman of the Board, and Ward Klein,
will continue to provide strong leadership and direction for the Company going
forward. I am confident that the Company remains in good hands."
