General Mills hikes dividend to 43 cents per share

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ Food maker General Mills Inc. said Monday its board approved a 7.5 percent rise in its quarterly dividend to 43 cents per share.

The dividend will be payable Aug. 1 to shareholders of record on July 10.

Previously, the company's dividend was 40 cents per share.

The company said the new quarterly dividend means the new annual payout will be $1.72 per share — a 10 percent rise over the dividends of $1.57 per share the company paid in 2008.

General Mills shares rose 38 cents to close at $63.40.
