Woman Gets 300-Page iPhone Bill

LOS ANGELES Early adopters of Apple's iPhone are getting their first service bills from AT&T and some customers say they are so detailed they belong in libraries.

Justine Ezarik, a Pittsburgh graphic designer and active Internet blogger, got her first bill on Saturday. She says it was so huge 300 pages it was delivered in a box. AT&T detailed every text message and Internet use for her billing period. "This is so silly," she told USA TODAY. "There's no reason they need to send you this much information."

A video Ezarik made of her experience uncrating the bill has been viewed online more than 100,000 times since Monday. Consumer tech blogs picked it up, spurring chatter across the Web about the bulky bills.

Tech site Ars Technica describes a 52-page, doubled-sided bill. Oak Harbor, Ohio, teacher Kelly Croy also reports receiving a 52-page bill: "The biggest phone bill I've ever gotten in my life," he says.

AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel insists these situations are exceptions. "We're not sending lots of boxed bills to customers," he says.

The company itemizes text messages and Internet usage on its data network, which adds to the normal heft of the bill. Siegel says that customers who don't want the details, such as Croy, can call AT&T and change their billing.

Options include summary bills or online billing.

taxes is really bad i have the lowest plane which is 59.99 and when my mom got the bill it was 82.99.

The paper alone for phone billing is adding to our bills!! I guess the companies don't believe in "going green" - what a shame!

The telephone companies are out of control. Billing is ridiculous, and I think Americans are being taken advantage of. We now pay more money for our phones and cable than we pay for groceries. Wake-up.

ATT is notorious for sending big complicatred bills. They do it so that they are so complicated the customer can not figure out how they are being screwed. Even your average phone bill at home is probably 10 pages. It may take a while for a custormer to realize they are geing screwed. When they do discover the rip off, ATT will tell the customer they should have read their bill and will only credit three months of the rip off. They did it to me and numerous others I have seen. ATT sucks.

I have 23 phones on another carrier and get a bill of about 175 pages. I am thankful to get the detail of call so that I may monitor the of my company phones. Would all you whiners rather they just bill you with no backup info?

The ATT is a rip alls they do is raise your rates and send big phone bills in boxes to people to get more money! Reading 300 pages is a waste of important time for those who cells! I know this and I'm only 10! LOL
