Toyota has a good relationship with their employees.. GM is at odds with their employees. The result is poor quality and GM recalls

I understand how some people feel that Toyota has a superior car to an Americian car. Between Ford, Chrylser, and GM, there is a car that is every bit as good or better as one from Toyota. I was just in the market for a mid-size auto. I bought the Chevy Malibu. In my opinion, it is better than the Toyota Camry at the same price. The second benefit is my dollars went to an American company. The Ford Fusion ls also a great car for the money. If you want a luxury car, the Cadillac CTS is a beautiful car. If we continue to let our american auto industry to decline it will come back to haunt us.

Toyota has come a long way since 1920. They started as a joint venture with GM and believe GM is still a major shareholder of Toyota. Their cars were junky in the 50's and eschewed by Japanese taxi companies because they wouldn't last. That's where Renault filled the gap (Renault now is a majority owner of Nissan). I was driving across Nevada in 1969 in my 428 Cobra Jet Mustang behind a rarely seen Toyota then that barely exceeded 60 miles an hour. It was blocking traffic. The driver of that Toyota looked embarassed but he must have had foreseight into the future about Toyota then.

The GM fleet has for long been consistent in maintaing its reputation for mediocrity.
Their continuing lack of innovation and imaginative design, shoddy workmanship, poor reliability - all may move their market to thirld world countries, but not here. Ford has also suffered from image opaqueness. Why in the world do they continue to affix a logo to their cars that harks back to Henry Ford and his Tin Lizzies? Perhaps it may well be appropriate.
