it`s much worse than it appears. the lies are unraveling, and they are using faulty props.

The real problem is no president or Congress want to come up with a real or viable energy policy. None of them want to tell Americans the painful truth nor ask for sacrifice...so politicians of both parties will pander, as they are only concerned with getting elected or re-elected.
For now, all you can do is drive less, buy a more fuel efficient car, or rely on public transportation. Unless the high gasoline prices don't effect your wallet. In which case you probably don't feel there is a problem..

Report This! JChan

"Now we have cars (excluding the SUV's of course) that get 22 MPG but there are vehicles available that get 50 MPG of better. More people need to buy these new more efficient cars, and give up thier massive SUV's."

So you want me to take my hard earmed money and go by a foreign car.? Sorry I'll keep my 20 miles to gal. american car.
--------------------------------------------------------------
whats a foreign car? toyota? nissan? hyundai? sorry to say, but they are all the ones you buy here and are either made in the US, canada or mexico. same goes for american cars. some are made here, some in canda, and some in mexico.
while i understand and respect your attitude to buy american, where do you buy your clothes? where did you buy your tv? where did you buy your appliances? chances are they were all made in a foreign country! so, if you truly want to fight big oil, get a car that gets better mileage, no matter where it was b

lastly......
our country has some of the brightest minds in the world. maybe some of those people can be brought together to try to finally solve the problem.
oil is a finite resource anyway, so at some time something will have to be done to replace it.
hasn't that time now come?

Suitman36 12:48:25 PM May 09 2008

continued.....
brazil is one example of things that can be done. they raise sugar cane to become ethanol. they have limited their imports of oil because of this idea. yes, we can't grow sugar cane here, but what about other products to make ethanol besides corn? as far as i know, ethanol is a form of alcohol (please correct me if i'm wrong), and we have many products grown in our country that could become ethanol.
the only way we can have any positive results is to unite and take a stand against the oil cartels. as i said, no one person has the right answer, but through putting all the ideas on the table, someone should able to come up with a sound solution to our problems.

to continue.......
our country in the past has overcome obstacles. we've won wars, we've cured diseases (though not lately, but thats for another time), we've gone to the moon.
oil, for some reason, we can't solve that problem.
do the oil companies have that many people in their pockets so as to not make an effort to rid ourselves of our dependance on it?
we MUST urge our government to make a concerted effort to find alternatives to oil.

Suitman36 12:40:38 PM May 09 2008

if i may add my two cents here.......
in my opinion, part of the reason we can't do anything, is as simple as looking at the posts on here.
how are we supposed to do anything as a nation with the way we can't even get along on here? there will never be progress made in the fight against high oil prices with all the name-calling, blame games being played, and all the vitriole that goes on here.
no one has the one right idea to help this situation. but, if there is give and take on the part of the people, a big difference can be made.

WRCO72 12:25:03 PM May 09 2008

The reasons for high oil prices are:
a) VP Cheney met secretly with oil company executives to set prices without competition.
b) Bush and Cheney and Rice lied to start the Iraq war to:
1. take control of Iraqi oil,
2. take Iraq oil off of the market to raise the price of oil,
3. create more demand for oil by the high fuel usage by military vehicles such as ships, aircraft, tanks, etc., and
c) Big corporations like Hillary's Wal Mart take manufacturing and jobs to China are helping themselves to cheap labor while they create a communist demand for oil.
