Congress has the key to the speculation issue. It is that "oversight" the Democrats cried about - schedule emergency hearings and get after it. Once speculators have to reveal what they are doing, you will see prices decline sharply as they try to scramble away like rats. This is the same Congress that left the ENRON clause in so speculators could operate off shore with computerized buying.

They could have had hearing on the looming sub-prime crisis last summer when everyone saw it coming and moved to stem the tide then. They were more concerned with going after Scooter Libby and rehashing Valerie Phlame for the sixth time, then which baseball player was shooting steroids into his a$$. Nancy and Harry said they were ready to lead - they have - right into a cul-de-sac.

Is it time to start rioting yet? There was once a time in this country when the people felt they were being taxed too much they would do something about it. Maybe we need to go colonial on these oil companies.

The oil companies are getting richer and richer. If our government doesn't stop these unnecessary prices soon, the working class people will be broke. If our guys are dying over in Iraq, we should be getting our crude from them free, make them pay us for their war. our guys are dying for nothing, and our government is looking the other way. With our silos full of crude, and the oil companies getting richer, why? and they say they have no control over the prices, then who in the hell does. They aren't crying about getting richer. Their needs to be a ceiling put on gas prices, not over 3.00 a gallon period, and I don't see why that cannot be done, we have crude in the USA, why not use it, it's not like we can't find more oil, the oil companies just don't want to look for it. I think it is a spit in the face for the taxpayers to pay this kind of price. I think I will run for president, a person could get elected on reducing gas prices alone and not all this other BS!!!

oil will continue to rise until september when they decide to lower prices dramatically in hopes of getting another republican president.

Notice when oil goes up, it goes up $2.00, $3.00, $4.00 in a day, but when it goes down, it goes down if we are lucky maybe a dollar?

Ams1078 has it completely right. There is no oil shortage. Demand is up, but not that much than last year or the year before. The dollar has lost value, but not 50% of it's value. It's the Oil speculators that are killing us. They need to change the way speculation is done. They must make it that speculators put at least 40% down on the their speculations. Right now it's almost nothing. They just pick and reason to raise the price. Hugo Chavez has diarrhea? Oh no, oil should go up $2.00 a barrel. Any reason at all they raise them. Reign in the speculators and oil prices will come down significantly.
