This has been a nightmare for all of us. I work in a specialty toy store that doesn't carry any of these brand names toys, but I've been taking a lot of guff from people anyhow. How did things get this far? Aren't there company reps overseeing things?
As for more American made products, there aren't enough factories in America to satisfy America's insatiable hunger for stuff. Buying from Americans like me still supports the American economy. If I am making money, I can put it back in my local economy and so forth. How expensive would American goods be if Americans made them? As an American worker, I expect health, dental, and vision insurance and paid vacation. The cost of that for American workers would go into the cost of product. Think globally. It isn't always us against them.

People get what they deserve...the cheapest crap at the lowest prices. They make it clear thats their bottom line...price. Businesses know it. So they send American jobs overseas in order to do it. Those of us willing to pay more for better quality are beaten down and ignored in favor of the "cheap price " mobs. We need protection tarriffs to be re-introduced. We need tax breaks for AMERICAN factories, easily paid for if we stop voting in senators and reps that push pork barrel legislation and waste our TAX money! . (More self serving garbage that diverts funds from real national needs.) China's the new economic dragon? Yeah, by ripping off American products with cheap/dangerous immitations, ignoring patent and copyright law, and whatever other low ball cheap strategies they can think of..they do not respect international law. Vote in representatives who want to protect AMERICANS!!!!!

It's like the $ 800.00 hammers being charged to the military a few years back in the '80's. People were not doing their jobs. The military has Mil Specs in place for this very reason. Had people been doing their jobs, that never would have slipped by, but someone got caught! It's no different with this lead and China business. Third World country, Third World ways. All I can say is, be careful, be very careful what you buy from China. Read your labels. Read the fine print. The company selling the item may be from the U.S., but the actural product, and food too, can be from China. Especially your seafood. And that my friends, can be your demise. If it's not made in the United States, I make sure it's from Canada, or I don't buy it. Period.

Again, the lead issue never came up and these Senators in office know exactly that China has been supplying the United States with bogus merchandise. Reelection time is coming up and now they want to make waves; the knight in shining armor, if you will. "If these toy companies are going to have their toys made in China or tim buc two, they will comply with United States' guidelines and standards. " C' mon, no one has been enforcing it! We do have standards of quality and manufacturing guidelines in place, and ASTM, etc., no one has been enforcing them until now. Some one got caught, and now everyone acts so surprised over this novel discovery! Give me a break!!!!

I used to work for a very large direct mail marketing firm in the San Fernando valley, that purchased their wares from China, and many times I had tried to tell the buyers of the suspicions of lead in paint and they continued to override me each and everytime. Bottom line was profit. I was head of their incoming inspection dept. and they could care less. Have you ever worked for a company where the buyers were over the Quality Assurance Department? Should be the other way around. Needless to say, after many years in business, they are no longer in business. The Federal Trade Commission was always on their ass, but the lead never came up.

Im american but I have to say if americans wouldnt be such money hungry slobs then all our jobs would still be here in america instead of other countrys but america wants to over charge for everything including labor so our companys says no that they will get another country that has cheaper wages, Americans screwed themselves out of thier own jobs not Nixon or Clinton or any other president.

Nixon opened the doorway to China years ago, Clinton just took the door off it's hinges so more of theur shoody procuts could flow in faster. And the biggests companies progating this flow are not reall y companies it's the American people for letting it happen in the first place.
There was a time when buy Armerican meant something, but not any more, most of the big name stores ie:Walmart, K-Mart Target .Even Sears, they are all quilty of using third world countries to make thei goods.

I remember when Nixon "opened" China to the world. But China now is the world's awakening dragon. Unlike America and Europe, China sees things far, far in advance. American industry has left America and now China is fastly becoming a major player in the production of goods. In the past China has always destroyed enemies invading their soil through the beds of their women (making the invaders Chinese). it has all changed. China now is invading the world with their cheap production. In San Diego we have their "bodies" exhibit. Wonder how many of those bodies were executed? Our unions and industrial companies are fools. We are going to learn a terrible lesson in the future. Have your grandchildren learn Chinese!
