"Speed Racer" didn't do well because it was far too juvenile for anyone who isn't a kid, and way too long for kids! Parents don't want to sit through this noisy thing, and even little kids who like it at first simply don't have the attention span for a two hour and fifteen minute film... this is why most animation tops out at around an hour and a half. The Wachowskis went downhill after the first "Matrix" and are now totally out of touch with their audience.
