Report This! Every American deserves a home. It is not the total fault of americans trying to get into a house. It is the fault of big business that will keep wages down, so the CEO can continue to make the multi million dollar salary. Americans have believed that the glass is half full... that with hard work our lot in life will improve, things would CONTINUE to get better. ROBBER BARONS...

Yes, everyone should have a oplace to live, protection from the weather, etc. However, some people can only afford a shabby partially run down rental because they blew off the oppotunity to take advantage of the free public education that they were provided, etc. People are entitled to whatever they can afford commensurate with their incomes. For the truly needy, we have governmnet housing, welfare, etc. . . . but that is not intended for able bodied men and women.
Alas, people who are just plain lazy, dumb or stupid, just

FakeBlood you make excellent points. There are genuine situations that people couldn't possibly anticipate however there are many out there who want no responsibility for the mess they're in. In response to this article I think they need to lower the downpayment requirement period. 20% is pretty hefty no matter what. I believe 5% down is adequate and 10% with no PMI. Of course, that would mean that lenders need to inform borrowers of anticipated insurance and taxes. Maybe we need to institute a mandatory buyers class that will educate everyone on expenses of homeownership. That way everyone's on the same page.

Daniel the robber barons that you mentioned have gotten rich in recent years by moving their manufacturing off shore to third world countries to slice the cost of labor but keep the price of the product high. The profit margins have jumped by hundreds of percentage points over the past couple of decades. Easy to have a villain and blame government but people simply provide a market for imports even if they have taken their jobs from them, they still buy imports. Lets make a market for US made products and get people back to work. The free enterprise system and free markets that capitalism embraces as a mantra was never meant to be used to destroy manufacturing or labor or enslave peasants overseas. The robber barons see the US only as a market, but not a place to create jobs. There are 46,000 products for sale in a Lowe's Home Improvement store and less than 500 were made by US workers but union workers go there, consumers go there and buy. The villain is us the average person w

My comment wasn't meant to be black and white. There are exceptions to everything, but I didn't realize I had to point it out. It was directed at the mortgage companies giving out loans purposely to people they know cannot afford it. This happens frequently and comes back to bite them in the a** in times like these. The people whom they are "gracious" enough to give the loans to aren't benefiting either. Many of these people know they won't be able to afford it or don't account for costs like maintenance and insurance at the time they apply, or just live frivilously. Your case is obviously different. Best of luck to you.

The number of jobs lost and people laid off and yes the ones who got themselves way in over their heads. Have no lost homes which have taken our equity and property value and in 6 months time dropped that by $53,000.00. So before you go judging me or my family on our values and if we work or can afford our home.
You had better step back and realize everyones story is different and how dare you think you can understand or know my situation. Being so closed minded as you sound!!! There are also 43 Million Americans without health coverage I'm sure that is their fault also?
