"We believe that the acquisition of StarKist seafood will help Dongwon establish a strong foothold and penetration in the U.S. market as we look to drive Dongwon's initiatives for globalization," said Ingu Park, vice chairman of Dongwon.

A short lesson in free enterprise: When a company grows up, it usually goes public. There are exceptions, but they are in the minority - those that remain private. When they go public, they stop being an "American" company and become an international company, owned by the stockholders from anywhere in the world. Until just a few years ago, Americans owned most of the stock in companies headquartered in America. That has changed somewhat. Now, foreign money (from the middle east, Japan, Eupone, etc.) is buying stock at an increasing rate. When foreign investors (individual or corporate) get sufficient stock in a company so they can control the board of directors, they own it. Our government has no say in any of this, unless the company has something to do with national security. Food, airplanes, cars, etc. don't fall into that category.
