Heat Indicator

Our new pages indicate when a stock is "hot" based on higher than normal news volume. An increase in volume or coverage may indicate key events could soon move the stock up or down.

An increase in volume is measured using a moving average of news volume for a company or security across several timeframes.

One such indicator is the orange bar at the top of the headlines module on the Quote Details page. You can also ascertain heat on a company by the presence of an icon () next to the Real-Time Headlines link in the left hand navigation. If the orange bar or the icon in the navigation is absent, the volume of news coverage is average for that security.

If the heat changes on a company you are actively researching, we'll update your page dynamically. You won't need to refresh your page, so you can be comfortable that you are not missing any timely information.
