Woman wrongly accused of using fake bill settles
AP
GREENVILLE, S.C. -A South Carolina woman wrongly accused by Target of using a fake $100 bill has settled a lawsuit with the retailer.
Rita Cantrell said a Target employee sent her name and picture to businesses and claimed she tried to use counterfeit money. Secret Service agents determined that the bill Cantrell used in 2006 wasn't a fake.
Cantrell sued Target and a jury awarded her $3.1 million a year ago, in part for the humiliation she says she suffered. Target appealed, and Cantrell's attorney said Thursday they had settled the lawsuit.
He would not release the amount of the settlement and a Target spokesman didn't immediately return a telephone message.
