As part of its commitment to affordability, William Jessup University announced today that it will freeze tuition for students for the 2010-2011 academic year.
The announcement by the University’s Board of Trustees follows its decision to cut tuition by 2.5 percent for the 2009-2010 academic year, which saved full-time students $500 for the entire year.
“We are continuing to make sacrifices and do all that we can to ease the difficult financial times that many of our students and their families are experiencing,” said University President Bryce Jessup. “We are focused on assisting our students, helping them pursue their goals in higher education.”
The tuition freeze applies to all traditional undergraduate students and students enrolled in the School of Professional Studies, the university’s degree completion program.
Even before the tuition cut and freeze, William Jessup University’s costs already were about 10 percent below the national average for private, four-year institutions.
The university is the Greater Sacramento region’s only private four-year, residential university. In the current academic year, the university awarded more than $3 million in institutional financial aid. About 96 percent of William Jessup’s students enrolled in the traditional undergraduate program received some form of aid during the 2009-2010 academic year.
Tuition for 2010-2011 will be $19,980. Fees for on-campus housing and food service have not yet been determined. William Jessup University offers various scholarship opportunities that often make the cost comparable to what students would pay for tuition, room and board at a university of California campus like UC-Davis.
While many universities are cutting or freezing enrollment, William Jessup University is preparing to serve more students. The university is currently working on a $25 million expansion for student housing, athletic, dining, music and banquet facilities.
