Urban Mapping's Neighborhood Data Now Used by Canada's Most Visited Online Directories
Top Sites YellowPages.ca and Canada411.ca Leverage Urban Mapping's Coverage of 214 Canadian Cities, Representing Over 6,900 Distinct Neighborhoods
Market Wire
SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/05/09 -- Urban Mapping, Inc. (UMI) today
announced that Yellow Pages Group (YPG) is using the
URBANWARE® Neighborhoods database for its online
directory sites. YPG, Canada's leading local commercial search provider and
largest directory publisher, owns and manages the country's most visited
online directories
YellowPages.ca and
Canada411.ca. The company also has a
network of seven local city sites that attract over 7 million unique
visitors per month.
The popular online directories use Urban Mapping's data as a basis of their
geographical search results ranking algorithm, which allows their end-users
to search for merchants by neighborhood. YPG is then able to visually
present these search results to the user by using the database's
neighborhood centroids (latitude/longitude) and border information.
"There's a reason why industry heavyweights like Yellow Pages Group,
Microsoft, Yahoo! and MapQuest use our URBANWARE Neighborhoods database.
Not only does Urban Mapping offer the industry's most comprehensive
neighborhood coverage for both Canada and the U.S., but we also understand
the complexities of working with neighborhood boundaries. Recognizing that
a location can technically be in two or more neighborhoods is what led to
our patent pending approach to defining informal space. We offer the only
solution that truly accounts for the informal nature of how neighborhoods
are viewed. This allows our customers to implement solutions that enable
end users to perform local searches that are intuitive and reflect the way
they live," said Ian White, CEO of Urban Mapping.
About URBANWARE Neighborhoods
Urban Mapping's neighborhood boundary database is the most comprehensive
product of its kind, enabling increased relevance for users and greater
precision for advertisers. The boundary collection for the U.S. now totals
nearly 75,000 neighborhoods for over 3,000 cities and towns. In addition,
Urban Mapping's set of international boundary data now includes roughly
17,000 neighborhoods across Canada and Europe. By geographically encoding
boundaries of thousands of neighborhoods, UMI provides precise latitude and
longitude points for every neighborhood. The neighborhood data can be
accessed through a simple and cost-effective API and is also available in
other formats including XML,
WKT, ASCII and
SHP.
