Major League Baseball will celebrate the 2009 World Series by raising awareness for the causes of veterans, giving back, cancer research and youth development as a continuation of its "Going Beyond" initiative. Games One through Four of the World Series will celebrate various charitable and community services, which will be among the most extensive in World Series history. Game Four will be dedicated to youth as MLB celebrates the importance of Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) presented by KPMG and administered through the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
In support of Game Four,
Tommy Bahama has donated the first ever
Tommy Bahama Limited Edition (#1 of 900) World Series Shirt from their recently formed partnership with Major League Baseball. The shirt comes from the 2009 World Series "Collector's
Edition" -- a limited edition collection of only 900 shirts, each of which comes with a numbered certificate. All proceeds from the sale of this very special first edition shirt will go to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
"We are honored to participate in this online charity auction," says Doug Wood, President and COO of Tommy Bahama. "Having just started our relationship with Major League Baseball Properties, we are so pleased to see that they share one of Tommy Bahama's most important values - the importance of 'giving back'. We are proud to support Major League Baseball in this endeavor."
Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) is the official charity of Major League Baseball. For more than 100 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of America (
www.bgca.org
