Susan Whiting, Vice Chair of The Nielsen Company, Appointed to MarkMonitor Board
Leading Brand Protection Company Adds Marketing and Media Industry Leader to Board as Independent Director
Business Wire
MarkMonitor®, the global leader in enterprise brand protection, today
announced it has named Susan Whiting, vice chair of The Nielsen Company,
to its board of directors. An acknowledged thought leader on the
evolving marketing, media and technology landscape, Whiting has deep
expertise in working with the world’s leading brands to provide the most
complete understanding of how consumers get information, consume media
and buy goods and services. She will bring valuable insights to
MarkMonitor as it shapes the emerging brand protection category.
“Susan's decades of experience working with the marketing organizations
of the world's leading brands is a compelling addition to the
MarkMonitor board,” said Irfan Salim, president and chief executive
officer of MarkMonitor. “Her insights on how companies mine data to
build brands will contribute a valuable perspective to MarkMonitor and I
look forward to her participation and guidance.”
The Internet poses opportunities and challenges to brand management
while demanding new approaches to brand protection. According to
MarkMonitor estimates, traffic diversion is estimated to cost online
advertisers almost $2 billion while the amount of business lost to
online counterfeiters is expected to top $133 billion in 2009.
“It is crucial in today’s economic climate for companies to protect the
integrity of their brands and ensure the Internet is a safe place for
consumers to transact business,” said Whiting. “The MarkMonitor value
proposition of connecting customers to brands in ways they can trust is
a necessity in a growing and evolving online world. I’m excited to join
the MarkMonitor board to help transform the company’s vision into
reality.”
As vice chair of The Nielsen Company, Whiting shares oversight of the
company with Chairman and CEO David Calhoun in the Office of the CEO,
with a focus on client relations. She joined Nielsen Media Research in
1978 as part of the company’s management training program and was named
Vice Chair in November, 2008. She was a recipient of the 2009 Women Who
Make a Difference Award from the International Women’s Forum. In 2007,
The Wall Street Journal named Whiting as one of their “Women to Watch,”
while Crain’s New York Business named her one of the 100 Most
Influential Women in New York City.
