Statement of Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA, on the Suspension of LIUNA’s Healthcare Ads in Montana and North Dakota
Business Wire
Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA, made the following
statement on the suspension of LIUNA’s ads in Montana and North Dakota
opposing a tax on workers’ healthcare.
Ads opposing a tax on workers’ healthcare benefits are up and running
today in Montana and North Dakota.
They will be up in Iowa
tomorrow.
Senator Baucus’ office reached out to LIUNA with a request to meet
and attempt to resolve the healthcare tax issue.
The Senator’s
office requested that we suspend the ads until that time.
We
agreed to do so and expect the ads to be held back starting tomorrow.
In the last several weeks thousands of LIUNA members have contacted
Senator Baucus’ office as well as other members of the Senate Finance
Committee speaking out against a tax on healthcare benefits.
We
expect them to continue to do so.
This is the beginning of the healthcare debate and our goal is to be
involved in the process and to continue to be active so we can achieve
healthcare reform that benefits all working people.
The half-million members of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union
of North America – are on the forefront of the construction industry, a
powerhouse of workers who are proud to build America.
