South Dakota turkey production expected to fall
AP
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -The Agriculture Department says South Dakota producers are expected to raise 4.5 million turkeys this year, down 4 percent from last year.
It would be the lowest production in the last three years.
Nationwide, turkey production this year is pegged at 250 million birds, down 8 percent.
The leading turkey-producing states also are expected to have fewer birds this year, with Minnesota being down 5 percent, North Carolina down 6 percent and Arkansas down 10 percent.
