Seminars in Mass. and RI address 'sexting' danger
AP
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. -Students in a number of Massachusetts and Rhode Island schools will be warned this week about "sexting" and other cyber dangers.
On Monday, law enforcement officers will gather at New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School for two hours of training from Internet safety experts. A student assembly will follow.
"Sexting" is the term given to the sending of sexually explicit photographs over cell phones. Recent, highly-publicized sexting incidents have sometimes involved children as young as 13.
Student seminars are also scheduled this week in Attleboro, Lynn, Lawrence and Mansfield, along with Cranston and Pawtucket, R.I. Other topics will include cyber bullying and identify theft.
The program is funded by grants from the Verizon Foundation.
