QinetiQ North America Officially Opens New Building at Reston EastPointe

MCLEAN, VA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/12/09 -- High-tech government contractor QinetiQ North America today at Reston EastPointe will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open its new offices that currently accommodates over 200 employees from the company's Technology Solutions and Mission Solutions business groups. Over 100 more employees will move into the space by 2012.

In one of the largest leases inked so far this year in Northern Virginia, QinetiQ North America is the lead tenant occupying 121,000-square-feet in the 196,000-square-foot Class A office building at 11091 Sunset Hills Road in Reston. Its 11-year lease started in October. The company leased the building through Vardell Realty Investments LLC and was represented in the deal by Jones Lang LaSalle. Fox Architects helped QinetiQ North America design the space.

Employees working in the new building will benefit from a state-of-the-art video conference suite, new furniture and improved technology infrastructure. The building also includes a cafeteria, a gym and energy-saving features that will save QinetiQ North America an estimated 5% to 10% in overhead costs.

The building uses virtualization software, blade servers and other green technology to significantly reduce heating and cooling and lower the company's utility bills potentially saving up to 65 [percent] to 70 percent on power consumption and on air conditioning. An internal analysis concluded that a virtualized environment would reduce carbon emissions by 66 percent and needed work space by 68 percent.

Situated beside the W&OD Trail, and visible from the Dulles Toll Road, the building was constructed on an east/west axis to take advantage of a full day's sunlight and further reduce electricity consumption. In addition, a reverse osmosis filtration system will supply drinking water and eliminate the need to buy bottled water and recycle the empty bottles.
