October Auto Sales: Honda sales decline 4 percent

TORRANCE, Calif. -American Honda Motor Co. Inc. said Tuesday its October sales fell 4 percent as customers stopped buying the company's most fuel-efficient models.
BY THE NUMBERS: Sales fell to 85,502 from 85,864 last year. Year to date sales dropped 23.4 percent to 969,638.
THE DIVISIONS: Honda car sales decreased 4.4 percent to 44,537, while Honda light-truck sales decreased 2.3 percent, to 31,214.
The Acura division posted sales of 9,751 units, a decline of 7 percent compared to October 2008.
TOP SELLER: Honda's top seller was its Accord, which sold 23,210 vehicles, a 13.1 percent gain over the year-earlier month's level. Sales of CR-V cars rose 14.7 percent to 15,667.
HOT MODELS: Volumes of the company's super-compact, high mileage Fit plunged 45 percent to 3,700, and Honda only sold 239 hybrid Civics, an 86 percent drop from the year-earlier month.
