Mike The Pike Productions, Inc. Acquires Literary Option With (Very Sharp) Teeth
MTP Prods Over the (Full) Moon on Recent Deal With Celebrated Author
Market Wire
FORT WAYNE, IN -- (Marketwire) -- 09/09/09 --
Mike The Pike Productions, Inc.
(PINKSHEETS: MIKP) has finalized a deal with
George R.R. Martin, to acquire a
literary option/film rights to his macabre werewolf novella, "The Skin
Trade," which was first featured in "Night Visions V," a compilation of
horror standouts written by the genre's best of the best including
headliner Stephen King.
George R.R. Martin has become quite the hot topic in Hollywood this year
with France's Cyanide Studios picking up an option to create a video game
for next generation consoles and PC based on Martin's "A Song of Ice and
Fire." As well, HBO has ordered a pilot for R.R. Martin's "Game of
Thrones," an epic fantasy which has begun casting already with leads
including Sean Bean and Lena Headey.
MTP Prods, CEO, Mark B. Newbauer couldn't be happier with the opportunities
this option acquisition offers Mike the Pike Productions, its private
investors and its shareholders, "This is a fantastic step up for the motion
picture division of our company. We began discussions on this property
almost two years ago with the foresight that vampires and werewolves would
be the forthcoming trend -- If you look back on the decades in film, you
can begin spotting trends as to what genres follow others and which ones
appeal to certain cultural climates and it's something at which Beth and I
have become very savvy. We can't take full credit on this at risk of being
boastful, but the timing couldn't be better for this project. That said,
the appeal is that it is timeless in form with a gothic detective story
with a hint of the supernatural chilling down the spine of a premise which
features a serial killer targeting werewolves."
An adaptation of Stephanie Meyers' "Twilight" hit the screens in 2008 and
2010-2012 is booked with pilots and screenplays all about the Wolf.
Newbauer continues, "Hollywood Reporter recently announced Fox Networks'
'Bitches,' described as a 'quirky fairy tale' about a quartet of female
friends in New York City who just happen to also be werewolves. A remake
of the Michael J. Fox vehicle of the 1980's, 'Teen Wolf' is also underway
and even Academy Award winners Anthony Hopkins and Benicio Del Toro are
tackling the subject in a studio remake of 'The Wolfman.' We think this
story ('The Skin Trade') would make an excellent mini-series, MOW (movie of
the week), studio, mini-major or independent feature and we'll be
aggressively shopping all angles without overexposing the property in hand.
We'll be sharing updates on this process as we move forward with enthusiasm
in a profitable, entertaining and true-to-form fashion as we proceed with
table reads in the next two weeks on 'Dresden Sun' and 'Fish in a Barrel'
as part of the casting process."
If not enough said, another company has stepped in with interest on "The
Skin Trade," as William Christensen's Avatar Press is working directly with
George R.R. Martin on a graphic novel version of the story and MTP
executives will be contacting Avatar for any mutually beneficial strategies
therein.
All the while, our Concerts/Events division is booming with our next shows
to be announced soon including a recurring series to take place every 4-6
weeks. The team is currently scouting in Orlando, Florida with meetings at
the University of Central Florida and the Amway Arena, among others.
