PORTLAND, Maine -The state of Maine is going to get almost $96 million to modernize the state's electrical grid.
Maine's congressional delegation says the administration of President Barack Obama is allocating the money to Maine as part of a $3.4 billion national investment in Smart Grid technology.
The money will be used to expand the use of smart-grid technology to all residential, commercial and industrial customers of Central Maine Power, about 650,000 meters.
The system will enable in-home displays and digitally controlled appliances. It will also enable secure control systems for substations and generation facilities, and automate distribution and transmission grids.
