A training program designed and implemented by MACTEC as part of the
City of San Francisco’s first Green Jobs Training Program will help

(OEWD) piloted the program.
MACTEC’s extensive curriculum for the Environmental Field Technician
training program – consisting of three days of classroom and hands-on
field work, is one module of the City’s Green Skills Academy implemented
earlier this month.
Key curriculum elements included:
- Health and safety and job hazard analysis
- Sources of environmental contamination
- Introduction to environmental media (soil, groundwater, stormwater, etc.)
- Reasons for sampling
- Fundamentals of sampling
- Introduction to groundwater sampling
- Introduction to soil sampling
- Introduction to air and dust monitoring
- Field training
“These programs are critical to provide residents the necessary skills
and training to effectively compete in the new green economy,” said San
Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom. “Times are tough, so we need to get
creative about how we find people jobs.”
“Community support is important to us, remarked Allen Kibler, President
of MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc., (
www.mactec.com).
This program is a way to boost our involvement at the local level.”
