Ingres Partners With PROGRAMMIERFABRIK to Support Open Source in Austria
Services Provider Selects Ingres as Open Source Database of Choice for Mission-Critical Applications
Business Wire
Ingres Corporation, the leading open source database management company
and pioneer of the New Economics of IT, announced today that
PROGRAMMIERFABRIK GmbH has joined its partner program, furthering its
expansion of business activities on the Austrian market.
PROGRAMMIERFABRIK develops tailor-made software for financial service
companies, software companies and government institutions. Adopting
Ingres Database allows PROGRAMMIERFABRIK customers to reduce capital
expenditure without sacrificing security or performance and offers a
truly viable alternative to proprietary solutions, such as Oracle 11g,
IBM DB2 and Microsoft SQL Server, particularly for mission-critical
applications.
“We have elected to include Ingres database in our portfolio and see it
as a valued addition,” said Wilfried Seyruck, managing director,
PROGRAMMIERFABRIK GmbH. “For far too long there was no real alternative
to the overpriced database solutions of proprietary software providers.
Ingres Database is the first solution to offer the same reliability and
performance at a fraction of the cost of proprietary solutions, as well
as market leading open source standards.”
PROGRAMMIERFABRIK was looking for a database that could assist in the
fast, professional and high-quality execution of IT projects, BI
projects, and deployment of technology. Choosing a database with high
caliber support services played a key role in this decision.
“Ingres is the only commercial open source database to offer partners
full 24x7 support, which is crucial when it comes to mission-critical
applications. That is a unique selling point in our opinion, and one
which makes Ingres stand out from other large and international groups,”
continued Seyruck
. “Furthermore Ingres boasts a long development
history, and offers proven, mature open source technology that combines
know-how, expertise and market stability.”
PROGRAMMIERFABRIK is looking forward to offering a more open source
model. As a former certified Oracle partner, the company already has
considerable experience in the area of proprietary database solutions;
however, PROGRAMMIERFABRIK feels that the time is ripe to nudge
customers in the direction of open source and promote Ingres solutions.
“The database market has always tended to be conservative, but there is
no doubt that organizations are now looking to free themselves from
their financial and technical dependence on proprietary solutions. A
period of economic downturn generally increases the propensity of
enterprises to accept change, particularly when – as is the case with
databases – there is a savings potential of millions,” commented
Seyruck. “The market is currently demanding new, more flexible business
models – which is where Ingres comes into its own.”
PROGRAMMIERFABRIK has long maintained a successful partnership with
JBoss and Red Hat, and with Ingres Database on board, it can now offer a
holistic operating environment with open source and open standards at
its foundation.
“We are delighted to welcome PROGRAMMIERFABRIK as our new partner in
Austria,” said Bertram Mandel, vice president sales & services and
managing director of Ingres Germany. “The Austrian market offers huge
potential for open source solutions. We realize of course, that
companies are not going to be switching their databases to open source
overnight. Rather, we see this as a gradual process that will be enabled
over reliable and innovative technology and visionary enterprises. We
are therefore very happy that PROGRAMMIERFABRIK places another strong
partner at our side with whom we can drive forward the paradigm shift.”
