In Iowa, Vilsack touts local food, regulation
AP
DES MOINES, Iowa -Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack returned to Iowa to promote locally grown food and urge that states be given a key role in tighter regulation of the financial services industry.
Vilsack, the state's governor for eight years, spoke Tuesday at a food security conference, saying his agency supported local food production that keeps consumers closer to the food supply. He noted big increases in farmers markets around the nation.
Vilsack then appeared with Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller to support congressional legislation to tighten regulation of the financial services industry. Both say they want states to have a role in enforcing any of those rules.
