GEICO Helps Chicago Girl Scouts Earn Road Safety Patch
Business Wire
While speeding behind the wheel is a definite don’t, it’s full-speed
ahead for GEICO and the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest
Indiana with the DASHboard safety program.
On Saturday, Nov. 7, more than 75 Girl Scouts ages 11 – 18 will gather
at the Collision Center of America, from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. for an
interactive Road Safety program. Girls will see a simulated rollover
accident, try to walk a straight line while wearing impaired vision
goggles, and meet local police officers. In an effort to educate Girl
Scouts on preventative maintenance, girls will learn how to change a
tire, jump a car, and check necessary car fluids. Twelve GEICO auto
damage representatives will be on hand to guide the girls through the
day.
The event is part of a comprehensive road skills, auto care and driving
safety series, designed to help the girls earn the new GEICO Road Safety
Patch. Once the classes are completed and the Girl Scouts sign an honor
code agreement, they are eligible for the patch which shows they have
learned how to make smart decisions on the road.
“GEICO is working hard to educate teens on road and vehicle safety
through our teen safe driving program and by partnering with great
organizations like the Girl Scouts,” said Rynthia Rost, GEICO vice
president.
“Ensuring the health and safety of girls is of vital importance to the
Girl Scouts. We are delighted to partner with GEICO to help educate
girls about road safety before they take the wheel,” said Maria Wynne,
CEO of Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana.
This event is part of an ongoing series to involve Girl Scout councils
across the country. Previous DASHboard Road Safety events include the
start-up event in Chevy Chase, Md., and Upper Marlboro, Md. with the
Girl Scouts of the Nation’s Capitol. In October, the Girl Scouts of
Greater Atlanta kicked off their own DASHboard program in Atlanta, Ga.
