AT&T Inc rose $.28 or 1.1 percent, to $25.26.
Qwest fell $.02 or .5 percent, to $4.27.
Sprint Nextel rose $.14 or 4.0 percent, to $3.65.
Verizon rose $.38 or 1.3 percent, to $28.75.
