CS STARS Announces NCCI Medical Data Call Solution
Business Wire
CS STARS LLC, the leading provider of risk management technology, today
announced that it will offer a data conversion and reporting solution
for organizations that are required to submit medical data to the
National Council on Compensation Insurance, Inc. (NCCI).
The Medical Data Call, a new mandate that will apply to employers with
self-insured workers’ compensation plans, insurance companies and
third-party administrators, in 36 states, will go into effect at the
start of the third quarter of 2010. Under the mandate, these
organizations (defined as “eligible participants” under the mandate)
will be required to report all workers’ compensation claims occurring in
the applicable states to NCCI within one quarter of their occurrence.
To facilitate compliance with the NCCI mandate, CS STARS’ data
conversion solution can track all data, including intuitive data edits,
required to meet the NCCI Medical Data Call format, assisting
third-party administrators, insurance carriers, and self-insurers in
reporting the data to NCCI.
“With about 60% of workers’ compensation benefits attributable to
medical costs, several state regulators and legislators are looking to
NCCI to provide the analysis that can help them develop effective
medical cost containment strategies,” said Vince Homer, director of
product management for CS STARS. “Against this backdrop, 2010 is shaping
up to be a dynamic year for regulatory compliance initiatives. We have
been closely monitoring the new mandate involving NCCI to make sure our
solution will enable the eligible self-insured employers, insurers and
third-party administrators to address their respective requirements.”
CS STARS will be able to report all data required under the mandate
directly to NCCI or to other insurance carriers in the specified format
on behalf of its clients. The CS STARS data conversion solution will
become available pending the NCCI certification testing period, which
NCCI has currently scheduled for the second quarter of 2010.
