Consumer Prices Up Less Than Expected
AP
WASHINGTON (June 17) — Consumer prices rose less than expected in May, fresh evidence the recession is keeping inflation in check.
The Labor Department says the consumer price index increased a seasonally adjusted 0.1 percent in May, below analysts' expectations of a 0.3 percent rise.
Excluding volatile food and energy costs, core prices also increased 0.1 percent, matching expectations.
Gasoline prices rose 9.6 percent in May, before seasonal adjustment. But they are still much lower than last year, when prices at the pump topped $4 a gallon during the summer.
Due to that decline, consumer prices fell 1.3 percent in the 12 months ending in May, the steepest drop in 59 years.

funny thing, they try to make the high price of gas better by saying it was less than last year, wasn't oil 147 a barrel when gas was $4?? now how is that better when oil is half the price? that would mean that gas shouldn't be $2 a gallon

Situation normal. "Beats expectations!" Everything does...on purpose. This IMF thing was a PERFECT example. On Monday, IMF says "worst is ahead for US." Yesterday they said they were "confident" in US. Hours later, US announces another infusion into the IMF. GO FIGURE!

Wishing that mainstreet has figured out how to manage their money better than the government is a good bet. But we figured it out long ago, before the fall of America. So no we are not going to go spend what we don't have to help our government improve their social status. Kiss our broke a$$. Thumbs up to backyard barbaques and garage get togethers. Happy summer maintstreet
