Initial Jobless Claims Drop Unexpectedly

WASHINGTON (May 28) - The government says the tally of newly laid-off people seeking jobless benefits fell last week, a sign that companies are cutting fewer workers.
The Labor Department reports that the number of initial claims for unemployment insurance dropped to a seasonally adjusted 623,000, from a revised figure of 636,000 in the previous week. That was below analysts' expectations of 635,000.
Auto-related layoffs elevated the claims numbers in recent weeks, but a Labor Department analyst said no states cited job cuts in that sector this week.
The number of people continuing to receive unemployment benefits increased to 6.78 million, the largest total on records dating back to 1967 and the 17th straight record week.

I'm wondering if 623,000 is significantly different than 636,000 statistically speaking. My guess is that it isn't - nothing has changed; unemployment is still increasing and the economy is still in the tank. As the man said "you can't spend your way out of a recession and you can't borrow your way out of debt"! All this government spending is doing nothing but extending the recession and creating a very high potential for future inflation.

I just got back from Europe and they live in smaller houses and consume less and are perfectly happy. America's days of intitlement and gross consumption are O V E R! Time to join the rest of the world and do more with less-------THAT IS THE SAME HOPE AND CHANGE I WAS LOOKING FOR. HOW ABOUT YOU?
