Caribbean prime ministers intervene in LIAT feud
AP
KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent -The prime ministers of three Caribbean nations are planning to meet with pilots from the regional airline LIAT to resolve a long-running pay dispute.
Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves of St. Vincent and the Grenadines says he will appeal to the pilots' patriotism to make sure the regional carrier keeps flying.
Gonsalves said Monday that he plans to meet with the pilots next week along with the leaders of Barbados and Antigua and Barbuda. The three governments are the main shareholders in the Antigua-based airline.
A sickout by the pilots last month forced the cancellation of several flights. A court agreed to bar further protests, angering pilots who say they have few other outlets to press their demands.
