American Eagle Outfitters Reports January Sales of $163.5 Million
Same Store Sales Increase 10%
Updates Fourth Quarter EPS

American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. (NYSE: AEO) today announced that total
sales for the four weeks ended January 30, 2010 increased 18% to $163.5
million, compared to $138.9 million for the four weeks ended January 31,
2009. Consolidated comparable store sales increased 10% for the month,
compared to a 22% decrease for the same period last year.
Total sales for the quarter ended January 30, 2010 increased 7% to
$972.0 million, compared to $905.7 million for the quarter ended January
31, 2009. Comparable store sales increased 5% for the quarter compared a
16% decrease for the same period last year.
Total sales for the year ended January 30, 2010 increased slightly to
$2.991 billion, compared to $2.989 billion for the year ended January
31, 2009. Comparable store sales decreased 4% for the year, compared a
10% decrease for the same period last year.
The company is updating its fourth quarter earnings guidance to $0.32 to
$0.33 per diluted share. This guidance excludes potential investment
security or store impairment charges. Previous fourth quarter earnings
guidance was $0.30 to $0.32 per diluted share. This compares to non-GAAP
earnings of $0.19 per diluted share last year, which excluded impairment
charges of $0.03 per diluted share related to stores and investment
securities.
