35,000 in Pa. may get extension of jobless checks

HARRISBURG, Pa. -Thousands of Pennsylvania residents who have exhausted their unemployment compensation benefit may be able to get 20 more weeks of checks.
State officials said Tuesday that more than 35,000 people will receive a mailing about the benefit and instructions on how to file for it.
With the extension approved by Congress, Pennsylvania now offers up to 99 weeks of jobless benefits.
However, state officials say people who recently started receiving unemployment checks may not get the full 99 weeks because some of the federal benefit is expiring soon.
The state's maximum unemployment compensation payout, including $25 from the federal economic stimulus package, is $583 per week.
Since the national recession began in December 2007, Pennsylvania has lost more than 200,000 jobs, or about one in 28.

Sign the bill please. I am unemployed. My wife has cancer, but still continues to work. Take a break from bailing out the bank, automobile companies, etc., and start helping the working class in this country. PLEASE.

Obama has to sign this Bill for it to be Law! This Bill has been stalled & stalled, and as they worry about foreclosures and bad economy , it's gets worse and worse with each passing "stalled" day. There are so many Americans who will lose their home's before Christmas because of this "stall". I am one of them !! But Healthcare Reform is very important right now!

The Bill 3548 didn't pass yet. This big delay by the Republicans was to even bring the Bill to the Senate floor. I am a lifelong Republican and ashamed of both parties for this delay. This bill should not have amendments but be voted thru.

I'm confused! Did the unemployment extension pass or do we have to wait for all the other problems to be solved?
